HeForShe Project Videos

For the first time, the United Nations has deployed the universal power of animation in its fight to end gender inequality. To convey the message, UN Women’s HeForShe movement enlisted CalArts students to create a series of short animated films.

The films dramatize the mission of the HeForShe movement—which calls on men around the world to stand together in solidarity with each other, and with women, to end sexual harassment and promote gender equality.

Pia Borg of the Experimental Animation Program and Character Animation Program’s Soyeon Kim taught the class Animated United Nations Women in Spring 2018. The 12 student created films will launch to the public as a three-part weekly series on CalArts’ website—with new films posted on November 5, 12 and 19.

Three of the films and the project trailer premiered at the HeForShe IMPACT Summit on September 26 during the United Nations General Assembly in New York City. Click here for CalArts President Ravi Rajan’s remarks to the summit and more information.
