Animation Program Updates

Animation Facilities Update #9 - March 2023

Dear School of Film/Video students, faculty, and staff,

Here are the latest construction updates on the A-Block animation facilities (A115, Experimental Animation and A221, Character Animation) project on campus, repairing areas damaged by an overflowing cooling tower in June 2021.

A-Block Renovation Project

Please note that due to building conditions as well as supply chain issues, the Phase 1 construction completion date has been pushed back to May 2023. We expect to be moved in and ready for full use in the Fall semester.

  • Phase 1 of the restoration project continues with our construction partner Gilbane nearly completing the interior walls in the A-Block.
  • Work also continues on HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and technology systems.
  • The elevator in A221 is being replaced and updated to meet ADA requirements.
  • Phase 2, construction of exterior spaces has also begun. This includes the Level 2 outdoor balcony space and seating for Character Animation and the Level 1 interior common area and review room for Experimental Animation.
  • As a safety reminder, please stay out of the construction areas in A115 and A221. There is currently no access due to the renovation work.

Additional Spaces

  • The Town Center workspace continues to be a resource for current students as are the bungalows on the main campus (available to Character Animation students 24/7).
  • Immediately following the end of the Spring semester, the four bungalows that currently house the Cintiqs and workspaces will be hauled away so that the foundation can be poured for the new Lodge, which will become the home for life drawing classes.
  • The new Lodge will be available for use at the start of the fall semester.

Student Feedback

We continue to meet with a small discussion group of student representatives from Character and Experimental Animation for feedback, most recently on ancillary furniture for common areas. Currently enrolled students can contact the reps for information or questions.

Thanks again to our student reps:

We will continue to update you on our progress. Thanks to our Film/Video community for their continued support and patience.
