Opening Reception: Thursday, March 23, 9 pm

COVERAGE is a site-specific installation of eight short films by Carla Bobrowicz. The series, initially sparked by the mandatory 2020 directive to film independently during the Covid-19 pandemic, investigates urban “plantscapes” in New York, New York, and Los Angeles.

The films of COVERAGE examine how prominent plants contribute to the aesthetic of two major American metropolises. Created by filming on foot, bicycle, automotive, and manual timelapse, the works populate a domestic setting on the CalArts campus. Viewers are invited to navigate several rooms and make themselves comfortable to ingest the multiple channels of experimentation on informational films.

On March 23, 2023, from 9-11 pm, COVERAGE will host a Listening Occasion, wherein the exhibit’s sound component will transform. Anant Shah and Sam Gerike will perform live, amidst a DJ set of plant-themed music by Carla Bobrowicz, culled from an open call for contributions.
