Gary Mairs has taught in the School of Film/Video since 1997, splitting his time between the Program in Film Directing and the Program in Film & Video. He teaches courses in Film History (including seminars on Realist style, the Western, Rock and Roll movies and ‘70s genre film) and workshops in narrative editing. He served as co-Head of the Film Directing Program from 2005-2013, Associate Dean from 2010-2016 and interim Dean in 2009.
He has worked as an editor and assistant editor. His films as a director include All That She Surveys, The Hemingway Night, Mom and Memory/Lies. They have played at festivals including Rotterdam, Courtisane, Zinebi, Lume, Palm Springs and San Diego Underground.
