Maureen Furniss
Maureen Furniss, Ph.D. is an animation historian. She is the founding editor of Animation Journal (1992 – present) and author of Art in Motion: Animation Aesthetics (John Libbey/Indiana University Press, 1998), The Animation Bible (Laurence King/Harry N. Abrams, 2008), and A New History of Animation (Thames & Hudson/WW Norton, 2016). Her dissertation, Things of the Spirit: A Study of Abstract Animation, was completed at the University of Southern California. She is a founding member and past chairman of the board of the Society for Animation Studies, and she has received awards for her contributions to the field of animation from the Hollywood chapter of ASIFA, Variety magazine, and the Animafest (Zagreb) festival.
